Synopsis

The stakes are higher than ever in this dynamic stage musical, as SpongeBob and all of Bikini Bottom face the total annihilation of their undersea world. Chaos erupts. Lives hang in the balance. Drew is excited to perform Plankton in the SpongeBob Musical! He’s been acting since age 6, and has been in 25 shows since. Some of his favorites include Sam in Mamma Mia, Gaston in Beauty and the Beast, The Cat in Seussical, and Uncle Max in the Sound of Music. Enjoy!

Mateo is a Senior at Batavia High School and has loved theater since childhood. This is his first show at BHS and he is thrilled to be back on the stage! Mateo thanks Mr. Cattero and all his new friends for welcoming him to the department and being so supportive!

This is Desert’s 12th and final show here at the BFAC. It’s been one crazy journey these past 4 years but he’s glad to be ending it off playing his personal idol Squidward. He hopes that you will be blown away by this spectacle of a show.

Josue is so excited to be a part of this year’s musical production. He is involved in Swingsingers and Chromatics at BHS but is a part of the musical production for the first time. He can’t wait to share his love for singing and dancing with everyone tonight!

Gemma is a junior previously in shows such as I Remember Mama (Christine), Theory of Relativity (Julie), and Animal Farm (Napoleon) at the high school, as well as The Wizard of Oz (Wicked Witch) and Mary Poppins (Mary Poppins). She’s also studied at the Actors’ Training Center and Piven Theatre Workshop.

Matthew couldn’t be more thrilled to perform SpongeBob the Musical to all you beautiful people! This is his 2nd musical at BHS and he can also be seen performing with the schools improv troop. He gives thanks to all the wonderful people who helped bring this show to life.

Ravyn is thrilled to be in her first musical at BHS. Although you may recognize Ravyn from past shows this year like Animal Farm and Nevermore, this is the first time she is in a musical. She is so excited and hopes you enjoy the show.

Miranda has been in theater since 6th grade and is so happy to be back and doing a “normal” show! Spongebob used to be one of her favorite cartoons as a kid and is very excited to be doing a fun, light-hearted show after some dark years.

Tanner Fleury is a senior artist at Batavia High School. Tanner has always had a passion for design and plans on pursuing it in college. They also were a lead creative director for BHS Rock the Runway and are a part of the National Art Honor Society Executive Board.

Dominic Is a Batavia native, graduating from BHS in 1999, at which point he attended Illinois Wesleyan University, where he earned a BFA in Theatre Arts. Following a short stint as a freelance director, he settled in Quincy Illinois at Quincy Community Theatre and served as their Director of Student Theatre and Head of Education from 2003-2005 at which time he transitioned to the position of CEO and Managing Artistic Director from 2005 – January of 2011. Dominic has also been appointed and served a three-year term with the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency, and served as an adjunct professor of Theatre Arts and Acting with Hannibal-LaGrange University from 2008 to 2010. A Theatrical Dominic met his wife Miranda on stage in Grease and they have four children, Brayden, Delaney, Mirabella, and Bianca.

Music Director

Peter Barsch teaches all curricular and co-curricular choirs at Batavia High School. He is proud of everything the students have accomplished, and loves working with this team of directors! Thanks are always owed to Mrs. Barsch and his family for putting up with this crazy schedule.

Mr. Barsch holds a Master’s Degree in Choral Music Education from Northern Illinois University and two Bachelor’s Degrees from the Honors Program at Loyola University Chicago.

Before coming to BHS in 2015, Mr. Barsch spent eleven years as the choir director at Oswego East High School since its founding in 2004. He was a Quarter-Finalist for the inaugural Grammy “Music Educator of the Year” Award in 2014, and has been listed in “Who’s Who among America’s Teachers”.

Mr. Barsch and his wife Annie live in Batavia with their three children. An avid reader, he loves history, historical fiction, and sci-fi/fantasy. He maintains a busy performing schedule, often singing and recording with groups like Cor Cantiamo, the Canturbury Singers, or the choirs at Gary United Methodist Church and Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. He also regularly leads contemporary worship with voice, bass, or piano at Community Christian Church’s Yellow Box campus in Naperville.

Kyle Donahue is thrilled to be working with such a great cast and artistic team on stage again after having the amazing opportunity of choreographing last year’s musical film Theory of Relativity! He has choreographed and performed around the world on regional theatre, theme park and cruise ship stages. Some choreography credits include Pippin, 42nd Street, Legally Blonde, GreaseOklahoma!, and Forever Plaid.  In the Chicagoland area, Kyle has been seen on stage at Drury Lane Theatre Oakbrook and New American Theatre, and has choreographed at Fox Valley Repertory, Buffalo Theatre Ensemble, Rockford University, and College of Dupage. He serves as the Cultural Arts Supervisor at the Arlington Heights Park District, and resides locally with his beautiful wife Julie and their four little ones Lulu, Lincoln, Finn and River. He sends a big thank you to Dominic for this opportunity and the cast and artistic team for their hard work and excitement! Kyle holds a BFA in Musical Theatre Performance from Rockford College.

Mr. Knautz is the Pit Director for the musical. He is currently teaching music at J.B. Nelson. Mr. Knautz graduated from Batavia High School in 2017 and graduated this winter from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa with his music education degree. He has greatly enjoyed working with the amazing students of the pit orchestra and is very proud of them.

Jennifer Melendez has been an educator in the BHS Art & Media Department for 13 years. She graduated from DePaul University for her undergraduate degree in 2009, and from Northern Illinois University for her masters degree in 2013. Jennifer enjoys creating her own art pieces during her spare time. This is Jennifer’s second musical as the makeup director, the first being BHS presents Cats the Musical in 2017.
